London – February 22nd 2008
Ofcom today announced the results of the 10 to 40GHz microwave auction. Having participated in this auction, UK Broadband are pleased to have won 4 of the 40GHz licences that were offered. This totals a contiguous spectrum block of 2x1GHz for £120,000 and represents a very large amount of spectrum in this important microwave backhaul frequency band. The new microwave frequency licences will allow UK Broadband to reduce costs dramatically and give more control over the quality of the current network and any future mobile WiMAX deployments. The licences won are technology and application neutral and last for a minimum 15 year term.
London – January 23, 2008.
Following Ofcom’s decision on the 22nd Nov 2007 to vary UK Broadband’s 3.5GHz spectrum licence to allow mobile services, the company can today confirm that a new licence has been formally granted. UK Broadband has been evaluating new technologies, in particular mobile WiMAX (802.16e), and with this licence variation is now positioned to deliver mobile broadband to UK consumers.
This variation positions the company as the only mobile WiMAX 3.5GHz spectrum holder in the UK.
A number of industry and market developments during the last 12 months have indicated that WiMAX is a key technology to deliver wireless broadband in the future, and that 3.5 GHz will be an important band of standardised spectrum for WiMAX. These developments include:
- The International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) adoption of WiMAX as an IMT2000 technology alongside 3G (WCDMA).
- The World Radio Conference’s (WRC 07) adoption of 3.5GHz as a global mobile spectrum band.
- Sprint Nextel’s launch of its WiMAX based mobile broadband service in the USA.
UK broadband continues to operate its successful pilot service (branded now) in the Thames valley and areas of London. The now service is based on TD-CDMA technology and the company is reviewing options to migrate the service to mobile WiMAX in the coming months.
London – March 1st 2006.

LONDON, August 26, 2005 - UK Broadband said today it is continuing to expand the coverage area and subscription base of its wireless broadband service into areas of London.
The Company will continue to take a prudent approach by implementing a phased rollout programme, with marketing activity on track for the next phase of expansion after the UK summer holiday period.
The service, which requires no fixed telephone line, will be known as now wireless broadband as it continues operation in the Thames Valley and as it rolls out to a wider spread of areas.
UK Broadband began delivering its wireless broadband service to homes
in the Thames Valley area last year. The product has been a great success,
capturing a significant proportion of the local broadband growth and a
healthy share of the area’s total broadband market, within eight months
of launch.
The decision to change the service brand from Netvigator to now was taken
on several grounds:
now is a successful consumer-facing brand name proven in the Hong Kong market, where UK Broadband’s parent company, PCCW, operates now Broadband TV.
The new brand is accompanied by a new price structure, providing a very positive message for existing and new customers.

UK Broadband launches NETVIGATOR
Thames Valley, UK, May 6, 2004 -- UK Broadband announced today the launch of a high-speed wireless broadband service - NETVIGATOR - that will revolutionise the way people access and use the Internet.
Six areas in the Thames Valley will be the first places in the country to experience the NETVIGATOR service, which offers wireless broadband to home and the office, with an initial choice of a 512Kbits per second or 1 Megabit per second. This is 10 to 20 times faster than a standard dial up Internet connection.
NETVIGATOR provides this broadband access without the need for a telephone line or cable connection. The system is self-installed in a few minutes, with a plug and play device available in high street shops or ordered over the Internet.
"This is truly revolutionary as it allows customers to install their broadband service within minutes and offers dedicated service with very high speed access", said Mike Butcher, CEO of UK Broadband. "This technology is going to change people's lives".
Because the NETVIGATOR technology is wireless, you can have a broadband connection in any room in the house. This high-speed broadband "always-on" access makes it easy to surf the net, download videos or music, and bank or shop over the Internet.
"Broadband wireless opens up the web to people", said Mr Butcher. "Many people have been reluctant to switch to broadband through the fixed telephone lines because of the cost, delays in getting connected and the frustration with dealing with multiple service providers. NETVIGATOR is different. It is simple to install, and since it is wireless, you don't need an engineer to visit your home"
NETVIGATOR is one of the most advanced broadband offerings available. NETVIGATOR is operated by UK Broadband Limited, a subsidiary of PCCW Limited, which is one of Asia's leading integrated communications companies. PCCW operates NETVIGATOR in Hong Kong and has over 700,000 broadband customers. UK Broadband owns a nationwide UK and Northern Ireland license to enable wireless broadband services.
The service will initially be available in Aldershot, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, Windsor and Wokingham
After completing this launch, UK Broadband will announce its national rollout plans for this new generation service in the UK and Northern Ireland.
