Need for Wireless

From the growth of data demand in Hong Kong we can see just how important the need to “offload” to WIFI has become.  The existing 3G networks are struggling to cope. This is because existing WiFi networks were designed for relatively low density usage, not high density data hungry handheld devices. In order to deliver "Rich Media" experience, ultra fast, ultra high capacity WiFi enabled by 4th generation Wireless Technology (4G) is required.

Ofcom predicts that demand for wireless data capacity will increase tenfold in the next few years, the market will need to look at all possible means of meeting the needs of consumers. It is therefore likely that we will see the installation of dual WiMAX-LTE base stations with manufacturers choosing the standard which best meets the demands of the target market. Making both standards available in this way has the potential to facilitate future technological advances by reducing the cost of upgrading. Traditional MNOs will most likely adopt LTE as the standard for their next generation networks, but whilst these will bring faster and more reliable connectivity to the consumer market, there will also be an increased demand for secure, personalised WiMAX networks to support new ways of delivering public services and business solutions. WiMAX technology can help to reduce operating costs and provide the guaranteed level of service needed in order to deliver the next wave innovative new wireless services in areas such as telemedicine and logistics.
